The Vampire Diaries Author : L.J. Smith
L.J. Smith has been writing books for Young Adults since the 1980s. She wrote The Vampire Diaries in 1991, which (for those who can do basic maths) works out to nearly 15 years before Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga was written. So please, for the love of all that is holy, stop saying these books are copying Twilight. If they were, L.J. Smith would have had to have mastered the art of time travel, and would likely have made her fortune that way and be living a life of luxury on a tropical island.
Due to various personal reasons, L.J. Smith disappeared from the writing world back in 1998, leaving the last book in the Night World series, Strange Fate, unfinished. Happily, she returned at the beginning of 2008 with a new website, some short stories, and Strange Fate in the works, along with a new Vampire Diaries trilogy.

Dreams and Nightmares have always fascinated her. Many of her books, including The Forbidden Game trilogy, are based on her own nightmares and those of her friends. At times she stops in the middle of a particularly frightening dream and thinks, “This is awful. I sure hope I remember it when I wake up!”
